I love combining my passion for leadership and the fun of indulging in a good book. Over the years, I’ve read
countless leadership books. Some are directly related to leadership and others are about personal growth and
development, which we all know directly impacts our success as a leader. If you’re like me, you’ll have no trouble
diving into this list of incredible leadership books I have as part of the mini library on my nightstand. If reading isn’t
your cup of tea, I challenge you to pick one or two and get started – audio book counts, too!
The 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership
by Jim Dethmer, Diana Chapman and Kaley Warner-Klemp
This book was gifted to me by a person who is a major influence in my life and my approach to leadership. Their perspective is important to me, so no question the message in this book is something for all leaders to consider! I love that the key lessons in this compilation were created by the real-world lessons of successful leaders in many industries. Sometimes, making challenging decisions for your organization can feel isolating. This book leverages the leadership community to create the best outcomes for the most important part of a business – its people.
“Once people recognize that there are companies using higher forms of motivation like intrinsic reward, play, and
even love, they gravitate toward them.” – The 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership
by David Michaelis
One of my favorite quotes lately is “It is today that we create the world of the future,” by the incredible Eleanor Roosevelt. Eleanor was a leader ahead of her time, making her work and approach exceptionally inspiring. She had such an important role that she mastered so
eloquently, while raising up previously forgotten groups such as women and minorities.
I read this book feeling like I was right there in history, but also taking away the lessons from Eleanor’s life and approach to leadership.
The Future Leader: 9 Skills and Mindsets to Succeed in the Next Decade
by Jacob Morgan
This book is for the aspiring leader, on the cusp of all-new levels of contribution and achievement. Throughout the chapters, the book highlights how to recognize and implement new innovations and concepts for the betterment of your organization, team and industry. It covers the many unique challenges leaders face and the need for continuous development, new ideas and styles of leadership. This book is CRUCIAL for any aspiring or current leader in any field.

If you think the cover is captivating, just wait until you dive into this book! The story focuses on a personal journey and evolution. I think oftentimes, as leaders we can get lost in the growth and development of our organizations and our teams, and we forget that we too are
on our own unique journeys to personal growth. This is a fun book with no rules, providing a great reminder to be completely and unapologetically who you are, and you will end up doing exactly what you’re here to do.

I love this book! The ideas of mental expansion and brain fitness are often neglected components of leadership. The lessons focus on leveraging mindset, motivation and methods to accomplish more on a personal and leadership level than you could have dreamed. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by countless outside influences, coaches and approaches, but this book reminds you that the power lies within your own head, teaching your brain to work better.
The list of incredible books I’ve read related to leadership and growth is long, but I believe these five books are must-reads and a great place to focus your reading time as we being 2021. Leadership is a muscle we must continually grow, stretch and challenge to truly be at our best. I love learning from other leaders, gleaning approaches and lessons that I might not have uncovered on my own.
