Here Comes the Summer! So, What Happens Now?

In May, we honored Mental Health Month with a whole new perspective considering the pandemic-related events over the past year. As we continue rolling into June, the topics of wellness and self-compassion have remained heavily on my mind. There is so much joy and excitement right now, with businesses back in full swing, events on the calendar, and the reduction of many longstanding health orders. While I share in the excitement, I have been confided in by many individuals who are feeling a lot of understandable anxiety and uncertainty with these changes. For example, many elderly or immune-compromised individuals may be facing adjustments after more than a year spent mostly within their homes. The idea of all health measures being reduced on top of social anxiety from long-term isolation is causing the perfect storm for a wide range of mental health concerns. So, what can we do to help practice not only self-compassion, but compassion for others who may not be in the same comfort level as us? Set Your Boundaries I have said this throughout the pandemic, and I will continue to say it when someday the threat of the virus is a distant memory: feel empowered to set your own boundaries. No two comfort levels are completely alike, and that is okay. I recently went back to a public gym for the first time since Covid-19 and it was AMAZING! I have been fully vaccinated, and I felt safe. However, my boundaries include continuing to practice frequent hand hygiene, and extra cleaning and disinfecting throughout my time at the gym. Know your boundaries, and continue to communicate them with friends and family, and practice them in public settings. Resuming this practice and continuing open conversations will make it easier on everyone to understand each other’s comfort levels and honor them as we all continue to adjust to new changes. Keep up the good work If there is one good thing that came from the pandemic, it’s the huge awakening surrounding the importance of good hygiene measures to reduce the spread of germs. We’ve been rockstars at hand hygiene, wearing masks, especially if feeling sick, disinfecting high-touch surfaces, and using good air flow or outdoor gatherings whenever possible. Don’t stop the great work! All of these personal prevention measures worked wonders in reducing the spread of Covid-19, and can continue to help us prevent future threats and navigate cold and flu season. If you’re heading to an amusement park, public pool or airport this summer, use paper towels to turn faucets, handles or doorknobs. Pack that hand sanitizer and don’t forget those disinfecting wipes! And always, avoid touching your face and wash your hands before you eat. Companies may be cutting back on added sanitation measures, so now is the time to take personal responsibility for healthy measures when out and about. Have compassion for yourself and for others You’re going to see a wide range of personal preferences now that mask mandates are ending and other health orders are subsiding. Have compassion for others who may be approaching the new way of living at a different pace than your personal preference. Ask friends and family about their boundaries before assuming they’re on the same page as you. And, just as you practice compassion for others, have compassion for yourself. We’ve all been through so much, and no matter where you are in your journey back to normal, you’re doing the best you possibly can. Jill Frey, President & CEO Cummins Facility Services, LLC

The CFS Way: Making a Difference by Doing Good Deeds

I’ve talked before about my passion for helping others. My latest work is dedicated to helping create opportunities to increase diversity within the technology field, and continuing support of wonderful causes within our community and our industry. I have been super excited to see a shared commitment to service, philanthropy, volunteering, and giving back here at Cummins Facility Services (CFS). As we’ve connected with so many different people at many different companies with many different missions and endeavors, it has only furthered our drive as an organization to get more involved in our communities and lend a hand to the causes that need it most. At CFS, we prioritize giving back to our community and we love seeing our employees carry this out in their lives outside of work, too! Recently, CFS has been involved in building partnerships with local community organizations to help expand our reach and provide job opportunities to underrepresented groups. It’s a company value to invest time and energy on giving back, and we love seeing our employees carry this out in their lives outside of work, too! This article features a couple, but certainly not all, of the fun ways that CFS employees are making a difference. Providing a safe haven for animals in need More than four years ago, Jessica White, CFS district manager, realized a passion for fostering animals when a friend who rescued a dog from a park was unable to care for him, and Jessica took over the role. Since then, Jessica’s passion has expanded into routinely working with 15 different rescue agencies in Ohio and surrounding states, serving as a temporary caretaker for animals who often come through situations of neglect or owner surrender. Jessica nurses them back to good health or transports them to rescue agencies as they begin the journey to their forever homes. Jessica’s amazing work is a true testament to starting where you can and making a difference in the causes that mean the most to you. Serving to protect our country No stranger to hard work, Vivian Akers followed in the footsteps of many family members before her and joined the United States Army after graduating high school. She advanced quickly with special assignments and administrative duties, later saying, “I learned all of the things I needed to survive if I went to war. I had no idea how much it would actually prepare me for life.” Vivian was awarded top honors for outstanding performance while in training with her platoon. Vivian is a true testament to challenging oneself to help others, and we’re so proud to have her on our team! Collecting prom dresses for teens Cathy Waddell, director of marketing & employee relations, makes a difference in the lives of many through her incredible Psalm 139 Ministry. This initiative collects prom dresses and offers them for free to local students at the Marion First Church of the Nazarene. ‘Shoppers’ can go through the racks and try-on dresses, making a special experience while choosing their gown! We are so proud of Cathy’s work in this space and for making a difference in the lives of so many young women. Thank you, to our CFS team, for always going above and beyond on the job and out in your communities! The world is better because of the impact you are making as individuals and as a team.

Celebrating Small Business Week: Questions I Ask Myself Every Day as a Small Business Owner

Happy Small Business Week! Each year, we celebrate the local families, sole entrepreneurs, and growing organizations who took a chance in the small business world. These men and women who show up day after day, even when things get tough, are the heart and soul of our economy. It’s been a tough year for everyone, especially small businesses. Yet, these incredible folks never gave up, and their communities were often the first to remind them how much they are valued. In my years as a small business owner, I too have experienced this rollercoaster of twists and turns. In honor of Small Business Week, I’ve reflected on the most pressing questions I ask myself every single day to keep myself motivated, inspired and reaching higher. How can I support upcoming businesses? The truth is, this is the stuff that really excites and energizes me. What’s better than helping someone in a big or small way to get them one step closer to their dream? Nothing! Some of my recent initiatives have prioritized helping women and minorities as they take the plunge into entrepreneurship. I am a proud steering committee member for The Ohio River Valley Experience, which challenges experienced owners to explore new leadership opportunities and sustainable companies that benefit their community through economic growth and job creation. It is so fun to get with beginning and seasoned women in leadership and every interaction leaves me bursting with inspiration! Looking ahead, I’m working on a new endeavor that creates opportunities for small business owners entering the technology field to receive the education, funding and networking to support success. It’s incredibly important to me to help increase diversity in our field, so I am super excited to share more about this project with you in the coming months! In the meantime, if you’re a small, diverse business owner in the technology sector, don’t hesitate to shoot me a message on LinkedIn. What do my clients need from me right now? What do my clients need? How can I help solve their problem? What is keeping them up at night that I could alleviate? While these thoughts are always in the front of my mind, I find that if I simply make a conscious, consistent commitment to simply ask my clients what they need most, they are more than willing to share their perspective with me. Cummins Facility Services is the size it is today because of our clients asking us to expand to more communities, regions and states. It is always our goal to be accessible to them. So, quite often, we go where they go! The question of ‘what do my clients need’ goes beyond new locations. Over the years, I’ve received a lot of emails and phone calls asking for a service or solution that many times, we didn’t currently offer. However, my answer for my clients is always an enthusiastic ‘YES’! If they need it, we can figure out a way to make it happen. This approach has led to our many endeavors, including Facility Genius. It all started with a ‘yes’ and figuring out how to provide a new solution to meet our clients’ needs. How can I empower employees and inspire entrepreneurs? One of the most wonderful things about my job is the opportunity to mentor so many incredible people. Whether that be my employees or a community member who wants to turn an idea into action, I live and breathe for the opportunity to encourage. The early phases of an entrepreneurial career can be thankless, tiring and depleting. Sometimes, helping an entrepreneur get over those initial hurdles means simply reminding them that it is worth it, they are doing what it takes, and they will have success. Taking time to connect with people, offer a perspective from a new lens, and motivate them when their energy tank is running low is a fundamental duty of leadership. For my employees, this means constantly reviewing how we as an organization can better support them in their work. How can we help our teams be more strategic on the job? How can we do a better job of connecting with them when they’re in the field? How can we take the application, interview and on-the-job experience to a standout level? While employees are performing tasks in their respective departments, it is the sense of purpose and pride they feel in their roles and their careers that can take their daily work from ordinary to outstanding. As leaders, we can never stop questioning how we can better support the incredible people on our teams who are the rock stars of our companies every single day. As we celebrate small business week, I encourage you, wherever you are in your journey, to take one more step toward success today. If you’re a community member, support a local business and tell them how much you value them. If you’re an entrepreneur, ask an established owner about how they made it happen. And, if you’re on the other side of the startup, enjoying your much deserved success, I encourage you to help another aspiring leader to rise one step higher in their journey to the top. Happy Small Business Week! Jill Frey, President & CEO Cummins Facility Services, LLC

Taking on 2021: Rebuilding the basics

The first quarter of 2021 has come and gone, and thanks to the distribution of vaccines across the country, there is hope on the horizon! Last year was unlike any other. With the chaos came some incredible innovations for our industry and new practices that we will continue to implement for years to come. Recognizing where we are today, I have recently made it a priority to emerge from the crisis-mode we’ve all been living in as businesses leaders and teams. At Cummins Facility Services (CFS), our goal in 2021 is not to lose sight of the incredible ways we’ve expanded, while re-emphasizing and re-prioritizing the basics that made us who we are today. As we’ve begun this process, it’s brought to light many questions that we, and many businesses, have not had a moment to pause and reflect on in quite some time. What were our goals before Covid-19? How do our core values fit into this new way of living and working? What principles brought us to where we are today? Now is the time to bring back the basics, strengthen our decades-long foundation and use that footing to step into the future at CFS. Safely restoring normalcy The new normal is still very unpredictable and in the works each day. While none of us knows for sure what business will look like in three months, six months, or a year from now, there’s no question that we must begin SAFELY adjusting and re-engaging in some forms of in-person communication, socialization, development, and quality control. For so long, we’ve stepped back from anything that could cause an unnecessary exposure – measures I followed diligently and fully support. But, now is the time to begin in-depth check-ins with clients. Where is their comfort level? How has Covid-19 impacted their staff and customer interactions? How can we help them achieve their goals? For those clients who are comfortable, I am slowly reinstating in-person, distanced meetings. These create opportunities for face-to-face communication, allows me to see their facilities on-site, and truly understand how we can help with quality control and safe operations. I think as business leaders, it’s important to begin gauging where people are, and meeting them there. There is no one size fits all, and the key to restoring normalcy is recognizing that it will come in steps. We won’t climb at the same pace or get to the top of the mountain at the same time. But, we can all help each other start the journey. Making the most of momentum Even in 2020, we saw substantial growth at CFS – from a new headquarters, to expanding to new locations. We recently opened our first office in Cleveland, and opened a second in Findlay, Ohio. In addition, we have seen significant expansion at Facility Genius – a certified solutions expert staffed by industry, engineering, and technical personnel to proactively and responsibly improve a company’s efficiencies, environment and facility management processes. Our new endeavors have only enhanced our emphasis on scaling back to the basics. With anything in life, from your home, to your relationships, to your projects, the foundation has to be strong to be able to keep building higher. It’s refreshing to step back from the eye of the storm and see a clearer path from where we’ve all been and where we can go. For CFS, this means focusing on helping smaller, diverse companies who may be struggling to get a firm footing. It means investing in our core values of safety, teamwork, attention to detail and relationships. And for our leadership, current employees and new team members, it means we now have the opportunity to stop, collect ourselves, and move forward, together. “None of us is as smart as all of us,” says Kenneth H. Blanchard. We, as leaders, can work smarter if we lift up our teams, clarify our strategies, and use the principles that brought us here to move us forward to a clearer, brighter future. Cummins Facility Services: Stepping up spring cleaning

Stepping Up Your Spring Cleaning Game at Home and Work

It’s a blissful time of year – spring is here! I don’t know about you, but there’s a little extra magic in the air thanks to the feeling of new beginnings brought by this season. We’re feeling extra inspired at Cummins Facility Services (CFS) following National Cleaning Week, which took place the last week of March! Now is the perfect time to step up your spring cleaning game, so that your home and workplace are ready to take on whatever exciting happenings the future months have in store. I have compiled some tips to help you make the most of your spring cleaning. Replace salt with sunshine Windows are the eyes into any building. Following a long winter, your view into the spring sunshine can be blurred with dirt and grime left behind from winter weather. Be sure to use this opportunity to get the glass sparkling clean so you can enjoy the vibrant views. Homeowners can enjoy the same crystal-clear windows seen in office buildings by using a spray bottle filled with tablespoons of ammonia, one tablespoon of vinegar and the remainder with water. Drying windows outside in one direction then inside in the other direction allows for easy removal any streaks. The next step is to focus on the floors. It’s not a matter of if there is salt left behind, its how much and where. Find the salt and kick it to the curb! Salt residue not only creates a dingy look, it’s erosive on floors, furniture and paint. Stripping your floors clear of salt allows sealants to do their job of protecting the surfaces. If you have carpet, now is the time to invest in a deep clean to get built-up salt, dirt and grime up and out of the fibers. For the shine on your hardwood floors that you see in office buildings, mop in the same direction as the grain of the wood. Be sure to keep any cleaning liquid from pooling and potentially damaging your floor. Look up! Following the season of furnaces on full-blast, your ceilings are probably in serious need of a clean-up. Spring is a great time do high-dusting and/or ceiling tile cleaning, services proudly offered by CFS that clean hard-to-reach spots across the ceiling’s surface area. Thorough, professional duct cleaning is important as well. Before you make the switch from heat to A-C, you want to be certain that the residual grime is clear to allow optimum flow of odorless, cool air. Don’t forget the exterior Have you ever passed by a home or building that looks incredibly inviting? Curb appeal is an area that can take a building from average to outstanding. Spring is the perfect season for a thorough power wash, another service offered at CFS! Your building will not only look better, it will be free of the unsightly layer of outdoor elements that can build up on exterior surfaces. Once your building is sparkling in the sun, take some time to clean up the landscaping so your guests will really feel welcomed. Refresh, Restock and Reorganize You’ve heard of checking your smoke detectors during daylight saving’s time. The start of the spring season should serve as a routine cue to thoroughly clean, reorganize and refresh the supply stock in your janitorial closets. Also, take this time to review SDS data sheets, which outline extremely important details for each piece of equipment and cleaning supply to make sure the users are operating them safely. Also, be sure to check company or personal cars and restock any first aid kits or emergency supplies that may have dwindled or expired over time. The power of fresh air We’ve heard time and time again that outdoor spaces or great circulation indoors is an excellent measure to reduce the spread of Covid-19 and other viruses. Warmer spring temperatures create the perfect opportunity to cleanse indoor spaces with fresh air! Open up windows and doors as your seasonal allergies permit to allow new, clean airflow into all rooms in your home or office. Continue to hold gatherings outdoors whenever possible, or at a minimum, in rooms with ample fresh air flow from outdoors. Moving interactions to a yard or outdoor space whenever possible will help everyone stay safe. Plus, the spring sunshine is good for the soul! Spring is the season of new beginnings, and there is something extra refreshing about a good spring cleaning this year. May you feel the excitement for the warmer months ahead and enjoy giving your home or business a clean slate and an atmosphere of optimism for the future. Choosing a Reputable Disinfection Expert in the Race to Zero

The ‘Race to Zero’ is a term that has recently taken the facility services industry by storm. This concept can be defined as driving down the cost of facility services by harnessing the latest and greatest technologies, with the ultimate goal being as close to zero profit margin as possible. Seems bizarre, right? While this concept is a little ‘out there’, Cummins Facility Services has always worked to provide our clients with outstanding facility services at a great value. CFS uses technologies to monitor the status of cleaning processes and materials, and bring in our highly-trained professionals to maintain quality and cleanliness promptly, but not prior to when it is needed for maximum cost efficiency. With this new ‘race to zero’, a lot of firms claiming to have the expertise and technologies have entered the market. Researching the organizations, services and cleaning tactics out there can generate a whirlwind of information for organizations seeking to enlist support for janitorial services. Here are some key factors to consider when vetting a facility services company to entrust with the incredibly important job of keeping your buildings clean and safe for every occupant, every time. Is there a quality compromise? While there are some great organizations out there, beware of companies who are brand new to the space, offering low costs but providing little information, or proven experience, in the facility services field. As the old saying goes, ‘you get what you pay for’, and while CFS is well-known for providing our clients the best standard of facility services at an affordable rate, we know that our services are crucial to keeping our clients’ businesses running safely for their employees and customers. Be sure to avoid companies who promise the ‘lowest rate’ but lack information about their values and approach to services. Are they certified? This is KEY. Never hesitate to do your research or ask questions from the company you are vetting to know their current certification status. Trustworthy companies will be more than willing to provide that information. Cummins Facility Services is fully certified, with our certification summary readily available on our website. No matter what company you go with, an ISSA Cleaning Industry Management Standard certification is a must. This ensures the team you are considering to provide trusted, consistent, peace-of-mind through proven practices at your facility is always exceptionally safe and unquestionably compliant. Are they reputable? With any service you are considering, never be afraid to ask for evidence of a proven, established reputation. Whether that be client references, reviewing the company’s history and value proposition, or requesting specific breakdowns of cleaning practices and policies, indicators of a solid business reputation should be readily available for your review. We proudly provide our customer testimonials, case studies, and more on our website so new or potential clients can have peace of mind when entrusting Cummins with their facility services needs. Reaching new industry heights It’s no secret that I get super excited about the amazing innovations in our industry. So excited, that in addition to my role at CFS, I founded Facility Genius – a certified solutions expert staffed by industry, engineering, and technical personnel to proactively and responsibly improve a company’s efficiencies, environment and facility management processes. I can’t wait to see how the technologies and innovations at Cummins Facility Services and Facility Genius help us reach new heights for our clients and our industry. I am thrilled to see the work we do now make our world a cleaner, safer place in the future. Jill Frey, President & CEO

FDS and BIG-EU have founded a new working group

We are so excited to share the below press release from our partners at FDS! Berlin, February 2021: FDS (Facility Data Standard) and the BACnet Interest Group Europe (BIG-EU) announce that they started a joint working group. The main objective is the evaluation of opportunities to exchange data between building automation and facility services to establish a common data-interface. In the first two meetings, the global importance of this goal was identified and existing specifications like ASHRAE 223p (designation and classification of semantic tags for building data) have been discussed and reviewed. “Connecting building automation and facility services offers new potential savings – economically as well as ecologically”, characterizes Johannes Bepler from the Hailo Digital Hub the benefits of this data-exchange. He adds: “If e. g. the meeting information can be taken from a calendar, the expected waste volume can be forecast based upon the number of people attending and from empirical values. This allows for a cleaning on demand to empty the waste bins only if necessary or to provide other cleaning services when required”. Frank Schubert, treasurer in the executive board of the BACnet Interest Group Europe, adds: “With this working group we want to start a global collaboration between Building Automation and Facility Services. Combining these two markets and players offers a lot of opportunities for smart, reliable and sustainable buildings”. Currently, the working group meets approx. every two months in a video-conference. Interested persons are more than welcome to join! Contact: Johannes Bepler, Hailo Digital Hub, johannes.bepler@h16b.com About FDS The Facility Data Standard consortium (FDS) is a technical non-profit organization that develops programmatic specifications focusing on the ‘last mile’ communication of high value information from industries in the facility ecosystem. In the era of Internet-of-Things, connected devices, Big Data, Smart Building and Machine Learning, the facility industry is rapidly evolving. While each industry provides the expertise in one segment of a facility operation, the well-being of the building and its occupants often depends on the aggregation of actionable information from these industries. FDS members representing the entire value chain work together to solve end user use cases by identifying the minimum set of information that the parties need from each other and define specifications to exchange this information that software developers can easily implement using well-known communication protocols. With an independent standard, the stakeholders of any size harvest the benefits of what technology can bring throughout the entire value chain while removing the complexity and cost related to communication, data exchange, and integration. Through its members, FDS is dedicated to advancing global open standards for secure data transfer and integration in the facility ecosystem, developed by the industry subject matter experts, so that the benefits of electronic information technology are widely, quickly, and economically available to the industry. For more information, visit FDS’s web site: www.facilitydatastandard.org About BIG-EU The BACnet Interest Group Europe (BIG-EU) promotes the use of the global BACnet communication standard ISO 16484-5 in building automation and security technology in Europe. It was founded in 1998 by 18 building automation companies and today has over 130 members from various European countries and the USA. The goals of the BIG-EU are, on the one hand, the representation of European interests in the further development of the BACnet standard, the exchange of information with the ASHRAE committee responsible for BACnet SSPC 135 as well as the cooperation with other organizations of building automation and facility management. The activities include joint marketing, training and qualification offers as well as the development of technical guidelines. More information at www.big-eu.org.

My nightstand leadership library must-reads

I love combining my passion for leadership and the fun of indulging in a good book. Over the years, I’ve read countless leadership books. Some are directly related to leadership and others are about personal growth and development, which we all know directly impacts our success as a leader. If you’re like me, you’ll have no trouble diving into this list of incredible leadership books I have as part of the mini library on my nightstand. If reading isn’t your cup of tea, I challenge you to pick one or two and get started – audio book counts, too! The 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership by Jim Dethmer, Diana Chapman and Kaley Warner-Klemp This book was gifted to me by a person who is a major influence in my life and my approach to leadership. Their perspective is important to me, so no question the message in this book is something for all leaders to consider! I love that the key lessons in this compilation were created by the real-world lessons of successful leaders in many industries. Sometimes, making challenging decisions for your organization can feel isolating. This book leverages the leadership community to create the best outcomes for the most important part of a business – its people. “Once people recognize that there are companies using higher forms of motivation like intrinsic reward, play, and even love, they gravitate toward them.” – The 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership Eleanor by David Michaelis One of my favorite quotes lately is “It is today that we create the world of the future,” by the incredible Eleanor Roosevelt. Eleanor was a leader ahead of her time, making her work and approach exceptionally inspiring. She had such an important role that she mastered so eloquently, while raising up previously forgotten groups such as women and minorities. I read this book feeling like I was right there in history, but also taking away the lessons from Eleanor’s life and approach to leadership. The Future Leader: 9 Skills and Mindsets to Succeed in the Next Decade by Jacob Morgan This book is for the aspiring leader, on the cusp of all-new levels of contribution and achievement. Throughout the chapters, the book highlights how to recognize and implement new innovations and concepts for the betterment of your organization, team and industry. It covers the many unique challenges leaders face and the need for continuous development, new ideas and styles of leadership. This book is CRUCIAL for any aspiring or current leader in any field. Untamed by Glennon Doyle If you think the cover is captivating, just wait until you dive into this book! The story focuses on a personal journey and evolution. I think oftentimes, as leaders we can get lost in the growth and development of our organizations and our teams, and we forget that we too are on our own unique journeys to personal growth. This is a fun book with no rules, providing a great reminder to be completely and unapologetically who you are, and you will end up doing exactly what you’re here to do. Limitless by Jim Kwik I love this book! The ideas of mental expansion and brain fitness are often neglected components of leadership. The lessons focus on leveraging mindset, motivation and methods to accomplish more on a personal and leadership level than you could have dreamed. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by countless outside influences, coaches and approaches, but this book reminds you that the power lies within your own head, teaching your brain to work better. The list of incredible books I’ve read related to leadership and growth is long, but I believe these five books are must-reads and a great place to focus your reading time as we being 2021. Leadership is a muscle we must continually grow, stretch and challenge to truly be at our best. I love learning from other leaders, gleaning approaches and lessons that I might not have uncovered on my own. Jill Frey, President & CEO Cummins Facility Services, LLC

The Future of Facility Services

Many of you know about my role as president at Cummins Facility Services. I am so proud to continue serving as the leader of this organization for another year ahead! It’s no secret that I’m incredibly passionate about this industry, and my passions have led me to pursue technologies and innovations that expand beyond the work we do at CFS and will take the industry to new levels. With the start of this new year, I thought this was the perfect time to share with you some of the ventures that have me thrilled to roll up my sleeves in 2021! Facility Genius Facility Genius, a company I founded in 2018, is a certified solutions expert staffed by industry, engineering, and technical personnel to proactively and responsibly improve a company’s efficiencies, environment and facility management processes. This endeavor was created based on the fascinating technologies tied to ‘smart’ buildings. For example, your iPhone tells you when it needs an update, the battery power used on various applications, available storage capacity, and more than you may have ever dreamed of knowing about your technology use. Facility Genius takes similar smart technologies to create never-before-seen advancements in facility services. Buildings with smart technologies benefit from an efficiency, cost saving, and supply saving standpoint because they provide down-to-the-minute updates on the safety, cleanliness ad effectiveness of the building. Round-theclock monitors signal when the building is too hot, too cold, or ‘sick’ (meaning there is an outstanding concern) and provide energy management indicators. The building’s team benefits from knowing the moment an area of the facility needs serviced or operational supplies need replenished. There are also amazing features like air purifying technology that is naturally anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, due to the use of nanotechnology-based functional fluids, or nanofluids. I’m sure it’s evident that I am incredibly excited about this work in addition to my work at CFS. Our industry is reaching all-new heights and I can’t wait to see how the technologies and innovations at Facility Genius help us reach for the stars in facility services! FDS The Facility Data Standard Consortium (FDSC) is a 501(c)(6) dedicated to advancing global open standards for secure data transfer and integration in the facility ecosystem. As chairwoman, I am passionate about FDS’s incredible contributions to equity and accessibility in our industry. Back to the concepts of big data and smart buildings, it can feel like the technologies in facility services are advancing at the speed of light! This initiative focuses on addressing the complex issues being presented to the technology’s end-users. In addition, the expenses behind these technologies and the skills and expertise required to implement them are presenting new challenges to our industry. FDS is working behind the scenes to advance global open standards for secure data transfer and integration in the facility ecosystem so these technologies are widely, quickly, and economically available. The future of facility services While innovation and continuous improvement has always been part of our foundation at CFS, I am proud that I can use that passion for the industry to develop new areas of potential for our field alongside some incredible experts! I am thrilled to see the work we do today positively impact our industry and our world tomorrow. It is my honor to play a role in the future of facility services.
